Lovina Bergey (1840-1897)

Lovina Bergey was born in Bergeytown, later called Hespeler (now Cambridge), Ontario, Canada, on August 31, 1840. Her parents, Elias and Salome (Bear) Bergey, were Mennonites whose families had moved to Ontario from Pennsylvania. In Abt. 1865, Lovina married Angus McDonald in Hespeler, and the pair moved to Michigan where they raised a family of seven. Their children were:

  • Angus A. (b.1858), who m. Caroline Hammel, and later Minnie ? .
  • Florence Ann (Flora, b 1860), who m. William Kingsland.
  • William (b. 1861), who m. Susan Stewart.
  • Armina (Mina, b. 1863), who m. Harry Sutton Wood.
  • Isabella (b. 1865), who m. Frederick Powers.
  • Ida May (b. 1869), who m. George Emery Jewett.
  • George Arthur (b. 1870), who m. Lillian Victoria Miller.

See also the large family photo taken after Lovina's funeral. The family moved from Caledonia to Cadillac, Michigan, while the children were growing up. Lovina died in Traverse City on August 15, 1897, and was buried in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Cadillac.
