This photo was found among the papers of my great-grandmother Bessie (Tompkins) MacDonald. No doubt the two women here are members of the Mavis family - the family of Bessie's mother Nancy Ann (Mavis) Tompkins. But as this photo wasn't labeled, our family can't identify them. We know that John Mavis, Nancy Ann's father, moved to Harlan, Iowa, with his family sometime in the end of the 19th century. But we don't know which family members accompanied him. Nancy Ann's sister Florence Mavis was married in Harlan, but that's all we know.

The only clue on this photo is the name of the photographer and location: Dammand (photographer), Harlan, Iowa. (This caption was removed for the web to save file space - but I have a copy of the original.)
