Amy Field (1822-1872)

Amy (Field) and George Tompkins were the parents of ten children, all born in Canada. The family moved from "English Canada" (Ontario) to Michigan in the mid-19th century.

Amy was born on August 12, 1822, the daughter of George Field and Mary Elizabeth "Eliza" Wardell.  The Fields and the Slachts (Daniel's mother's family) were both Loyalists, originally from New Jersey, but who moved north to Canada after the American Revolution.  Amy married George Tompkins on November 19, 1839, in Harwich Twp, Kent County, Ontario.  Their ten children were born over the next twenty-six years (!).  Elisher was their eighth child and sixth son.

This photo is of Amy and her son Elisher - his first photo, taken in 1870.  (The photo is dated 1880, but Amy died in 1872.)
